Digital Patient Record
📌 Hospital Albert Einstein
About the project
The project's main objective was to recreate the experience of the electronic medical record application used by doctors in the hospital, a critical tool for monitoring and managing patient information.
Given the direct impact this platform has on the workflow of healthcare professionals, the need to optimize the usability and efficiency of the system was identified as a priority.

What are the main problems?
During a meeting with stakeholders and the team involved, we explored several hypotheses related to the main concerns and needs of users, as well as their alignment with business objectives.
We identified a number of initial challenges that motivated us to seek significant improvements:
Slow performance when accessing various application features.
A complex user experience, making it difficult to find what you need.
An outdated interface, accompanied by a series of bugs that affect the functionality of the system.

Einstein Médicos is an app that helps doctors in caring for patients in clinics, inpatient wards or telemedicine

In a doctor's routine, everything needs to happen very quickly and with easy access to information, as this can often cost a patient's life at risk.

Patient information such as latest exams and progress are very important and it is not always easy to find them, or sometimes the app does not work.

Complicated interface, difficulty finding features and slowness when searching for information create a very bad experience for doctors who need to be quick in their tasks.

Interview with doctors
Through quantitative and qualitative research, I was able to better understand how doctors use the app, at what times and for what purposes. Through face-to-face interviews, I was able to understand their pain points and main needs. Below are some of the questions and answers obtained:

Solution aims to meet users' main needs.
Usability testing was an important milestone in the project, where the new design was widely well accepted by physicians.
They praised the clarity and ease of use of the interface, pointing out that the redesigned system allowed for more intuitive navigation and faster consultation of patient data, which directly contributed to efficiency in care.
Final learnings
How far have we come?
The main focus of the electronic medical record redesign project was to improve the usability and efficiency of the tool used by doctors in the hospital. Based on detailed research and feedback from end users (doctors), I identified several pain points related to complex navigation, information overload and difficulty in quickly locating crucial patient data.
During the process, key steps included physician interviews, on-site observations, journey mapping, and persona definition, which resulted in clear identification of the most critical issues in the current electronic health record experience.
With this information, I developed iterative prototypes, prioritizing the simplification of the interface and quick access to essential information, such as health history, exams and prescriptions.
Main learnings:
Collaboration with end users is essential: Working closely with physicians throughout the process allowed for deeper insight into their practical needs and resulted in a product that truly meets their day-to-day demands.
Iteration is key to user-centric solutions: The process of continuous prototyping and testing was crucial to refining solutions and ensuring that the final design not only solved the identified problems but was also easily adopted by users.
Simplicity is power: In a fast-paced work environment like a hospital, where every second counts, simple and intuitive design makes all the difference. One of the project’s greatest successes was the ability to eliminate unnecessary complexity while maintaining functional robustness.
This project reinforced the importance of combining detailed research with practical usability, ensuring that technological solutions are efficient, without compromising the experience of the professionals who use them.
